Be a reconciler

I have been reading a really good book called Speaking from the Heart. I want to share a little bit and some thoughts…

Excerpt:

The bible says that by our sin we break our relationship with God and build barriers between ourselves and Him, but in Christ that “dividing wall of hostility” is destroyed (Eph 2:14)  Imagine that a deep ravine separated where you live and where I live. The only way we have of reaching one another is a bridge across the ravine. But I get mad at you one day and burn down the bridge, cutting off contact between us. Sometime later I look out and discover that you are rebuilding the bridge! You, the innocent party, are making it possible for us to be in relationship again. That is precisely what God did for us through Christ: the righteous rebuilt the bridge to the unrighteous. The biblical word for that in action is reconciliation, the restoring of a broken relationship.

We are the people of God. We are the reconcilers of this world. Christ brought reconciliation and we are the spreaders of it between us. We choose to have unity between each other or not. I know this can be a very touchy subject. Someone has wronged us…someone has hurt us…someone was at fault.

But WHO ARE YOU???

Are you a reconciler or a separatist?

Now hold on just a second!!! YEAH! I know there are situations where the other person is the one who wont forgive you….they are the ones who wont talk to you….they are the ones who blame you…

Reach out….build the bridge!!

Bridges aren’t built over night. Start slow…just keep trying…BE A RECONCILER!!

Mat 5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
2Cr 5:18 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.

  1. it’s good to keep in mind as well… when you are at the end of your life, are you going to be remembered as the one who tore down or the one willing to put aside your pride to build up… Great post Starla, as usual 😉

  2. I got stuck in the paragraph about how Christ reconciled us to God. In every way imaginable, He did that. The veil in the temple was torn, from top to bottom allowing us to communicate with God freely. Thats a special privilege that we have, as people. And to intimately know Christ, is a special privilege we have as believers.

Sometimes its sooo easy to keep that wall up with people. But we’re called to be like Christ. He reconciled us to God and we crucified Him! It’s our sins that have Him nailed to the cross! What right do I have NOT to be a reconciler? Seriously?!?! If I want to mimic Christ, I need to take it all. Not just what I want. I want to be like Christ and heal people…but I don’t want to forgive my bother or be near the person who keeps betraying me.

    And end rant. 🙂
