Get the fix

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…

I use to think that this verse meant that once I became a Christian I would no longer feel guilt. That just isn’t true.  I have quoted it when the enemy wrongfully accuse me. What about when he rightfully accuses me? The enemy is not the only one- my very conscience will condemn me. If I break God’s law I will feel guilt. God said He would write His law on my heart. ( Romans 2:15)  I have been in the grip of guilt, with my mind bombarding me with thoughts of my wrong doing. It just keeps swirling and swirling like being stuck under a wave, tumbled and tossed by its relentless onslaught. I cant just quote this verse to myself when I feel guilty and move on though. I have used it that way in the past, it just doesn’t work like that. I end up reaping what I sow and eventually it all starts to pile up and stink because no matter what I am still responsible for my sin. I have to deal with the issue that is making me feel guilt. I have to deal with my sin.

That is the reason it is important to read the whole text not just a piece of it. That first part sounds amazing and makes me feel so good but the rest of this verse says… who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. That is a stipulation, a requirement right there. There is no condemnation to those in Christ who do NOT walk according to the flesh. I have something I must do. I cant just sin, quote the first part and get out of jail free!

So how does that flesh walk :

Romans 8:5 says that those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires.

The flesh wants to run its own life and not be held to God’s standard. Ever been there? I have.

God’s standard never changed! He is the same yesterday, today and forever! Jesus lived up to that standard and paid the cost for our sin. He was our substitute. He died in our place. We can claim that. We can apply His blood to our sin every time we mess up.

I feel guilt because something is wrong. That is a blessing! However, my flesh does not want to be fixed it wants to reign free. I don’t want to admit I did wrong. I don’t want to apologize for what I think are trivial things. My flesh would rather me blame the other person for being so trivial and ridiculous.  The next thing I know my flesh tells me all about how what I did wasn’t that bad, or as bad as someone else, or some other mix of reasons and justifications. I might get angry, even bitter and just move on like nothing happened. That is flesh!

Something is wrong no matter if I agree with these thoughts or not. Sin is sin.

God sent the fix for what is wrong. Jesus Christ accepted the penalty for my sin. The reason I am not condemned because when I feel guilt, is because I now have the freedom to choose to confess my sin and repent! I am not a slave to the sin task master. I can plead the blood of Jesus and He is faithful and just to forgive me of it. I can be really free. I can walk in the Spirit.

That is how there is NOW no condemnation. There is no condemnation when I walk according to the Spirit. The Spirit will always call me to repent. He is a gift of God’s goodness toward me.

Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Don’t despise the richness of this gift … It is always NOW…..

50$ a week food budget

It always seemed like we were stealing from other areas of our budget to make up the lack in the food budget. I decided it was time to get a serious or crazy…either way it worked.

I have found that it takes not only being frugal or content with what you have but also to be willing to be organized and desire to feed your family quality food – stick to the plan!

See I have found the more convenient the foods the more I was paying.

Just think about it – One pizza to feed my family from Papa Murphy’s is about 14.00 – that is more than a 1/4 of my budget for ONE meal…. simply NUTS!!

So I drove of the cliff of try-it-ville and I succeeded.

So here’s how I did it :

1. I picked one grocery store – I picked Savealot since it is right around the corner.

2. Every Monday ( pick your day once a week) I look at what I have in my storage and fridge and ask myself:

 – what meat do I have?  – half bag of frozen chicken, 3/4 left of sausage, hamburger –  whatever it is that you have USE IT!

 – what produce to I have? – carrots, celery, potato, onions –these can go in just about any recipe

 – what items do I need? – flour, sugar, milk, eggs, cheese

3. Look at the weekly ad and see what is on sale

4. PINTEREST  – I pop in a search for whatever meat I have or what is on sale – use recipes that use as many items you already have or go a long way … for instance in the winter soups are awesome!  Also I had left over sauce from making meatballs, mushrooms still left over, a couple slices of tomato in a baggie, a little less than half a block of cheese and a pizza crust dough pouch my mother in law gave me – all I needed to buy was a little can of olives and sausage.  REMEMBER THAT $14.00 pizza cost — I just cut it to about $2.50 using what I had and the kids had fun cooking too!!

5. Make a list and stick to it – hitting the store ONCE a week!  – and NEVER NEVER GO HUNGRY

and that is about it…

I started making my own bread – click the picture for recipe

( I have a bread machine so I found a Bombproof recipe since I don’t know how to use all the bells and whistles) I add a table spoon of brown sugar = perfect!

Repentance: a word despised

I love how in life everything gives me opportunity to think deeper !!

Repentance:  changing your mind about Jesus Christ and turning to God in faith for salvation If you have not turned from the sin,  toward Jesus to wash you of it based on what the Cross that Christ endured has already done for you and started walking in a new direction called new life. Then you didn’t repent because I’m pretty sure you are still defending your sin, stepping on the blood of Christ and there hasn’t been a change. And yes we will do this over and over and over until He returns. How do I know? I know because I have done this over and over. When you stop defending your sin humility comes. With humility comes the power of God in grace, love and forgiveness.

we think it to be

that space and place

where we chose to accept God

our perspective is bent

my perspective has been bent

Salvation is the glorious pursuit of a God who refuses to stop loving you and me despite our sin

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

He sacrificed His Son to pay for what we have done and what we will do

so that He  could love us with an everlasting love

So that we could see His goodness

Romans 2:4  Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

a word despised

why do I say that?

because instead of running straight into the arms of the Father

straight to the foot of the cross when we screw up time and time again

we try to save ourselves instead

justifying and reasoning away what we have done

ignoring and denying our sin

we can not save ourselves!

we can not overcome!

if we could God would not have sent Jesus at all

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.

is His Goodness on display toward you

Lay your sin down

pick up His holiness and walk away clean

Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.

Walking in a new perspective

I didn’t get clean because I repented

No, I am clean by the grace of God!

I am clean by the love of Christ!

I am clean because of the call to repent

that beats within me through the power of the Holy Spirit

That’s the salvation of our God to every man.

Make the connection

“We can’t win at somebody else’s expense. We can only fully be satisfied when the other person’s needs are fulfilled as well as our own.” – Marshall Rosenberg

He’s standing there looking at me and he keeps saying the same thing over and over in different ways …. ever been in a situation like that? I am just staring at him expressionless. My mind normally trips on “ Does he think I am stupid? Does he think I don’t get what he is saying? Why does he keep repeating himself like that?

But this time was different! This time I recognized myself in him. I realized that I do this exact same thing when someone just looks at me with that blank stare. In those moments I begin to fear the worst and I keep talking hoping to flip a magic switch that tells me that they get it, they hear me, they know what I am talking about?

Its called connection!

In that moment when he was talking to me, I saw myself! I realized that I do this too. I hold back what I am thinking and feeling. Not sure what to say. Don’t want to say the wrong thing.

…………and the pole came out of my own eye………….

I heard God say” He needs you to connect here. He thinks you think he is crazy!”  RISK IT!

I reach out to my husband and I wrapped my arms around him and I started praying out loud about what he was saying. I could feel him relaxing in my arms. When I finished he said “thank you” to me.

Some of us didn’t grow up knowing how to connect. No one taught us. I have mostly just tried to survive. I want to thrive. Jesus put His whole self on the line for people. Connected in the deepest and most meaningful ways. Compassion-Love-Understanding. I want to live like that.

When moments happen and I don’t know what to think I don’t want to push pause, to just stand there and stare at the person, expressionless and without connection. I want to live fearless. Faithfully loving them. Moving Forward. Connecting with their real needs.

Sometimes you just gotta get out of your head stop analyzing.
